Poem Artwork

When I was a little girl

We spent a lot of time

Riding around

 on the country roads of

New Hampshire.

Daddy was a hunter

And a fisherman and was always

Looking for animal tracks

And partridge and pheasants

And places to drop a line.

It was his hobby but also

A way to keep his family fed.

One of my favorite stories

While we were riding

Was of his throwing

Those big NH boulders

At rabbits.

You know the ones…

too big for a normal man to throw

but not too big for

my hero, my Dad.

There is one in Barnstead

On Route 28 and others

All over the state.

He always said

The proof was there.

Just lift the rock

And you will find

The rabbit.

It's so nice to have hero's, especially when they are your mom or pop and what a wonderful way of honoring him. Thank You, Dick
