Sparked by a photo of a young man sitting on a stump crying.....read into it what you will...
GRIEF
All I can do is cry,
It hurts so bad
My folks say it’s for the best.
My folks say it was wrong
What we did
And they’ll never
Let us see each other again.
How can that happen?
How can they say that?
How can they know?
They say I‘m growing up
And it’s time I started deciding
What was right for me
And then when I do
And I finally begin to feel
Like I matter to someone
Like I mean something
Like all the mixed up feelings
Inside are beginning to make sense
They find out,
And it’s like the end of the world
I wish the ground would open up,
Swallow me whole,
And close up again after.
What difference does it make anyway?
They say boys don’t cry;
Well they do, dammit
But tears are useless
It feels like they took my heart,
Put it in a blender
And turned it on.
I hope they’re happy.
I’m not
I wish I was dead
They say they care,
But they don’t give a damn
Its all about what they want
Not what I want.
They say I’ll feel better
“Time heals all wounds” they say.
Bullshit!
My life might as well be over.
If I live to be 100
I’ll remember this day
As clear as if it just happened.
I’ll remember what I lost,
What they took away.
I’ll never be the same,
And I don’t want
To ever be the same again anyway.
You impart so much passion and compassion through this perspective of a young man's grief. So much of what we end up doing in life is for society, for other people like a parent, and there is pain.
