Poem Artwork

Laureate

I proclaimed myself
a poet
yesterday
and
laureate
erected myself
with wings upon the stone
of the brow
and poems written
in fire
upon the bronze
of the plate
at my feet.

Today I descend
from the stone
and
by foot
with no bronze
or fire
or wings
I ascend
to the brow where
merely
a poem of wind
alights.

A poem
laureate
merely
because it is
a loose
poem
that I don’t write
but which reads me
from brow
to feet.

I’ll proclaim myself
reader
of me
a better one
tomorrow.

And I’ll erect myself
then
merely loose – merely me.

Naked
of brow
and of poet
at the feet
of wind.

Xandinha,

You are one of the most humble poets I know. In your work, you seek not to glorify yourself but the written word and you do so with simple elegance. You show us that it's the Art, itself, which is most important.

With deep admiration,
Joseph*

"I’ll proclaim myself
reader
of me
a better one
tomorrow."

For me this speaks more wisdom in a phrase than I've read in entire novels before.

We must allow our muse to work through us, granted, and muses can change from day to day, as the weather at times, but we must always be the critic of what is being done through us by us.

This requires a mind, and heartset, that few have. Can writers and artists truly be constructively critical of themselves? I know very few who are.

Too many see themselves through the jaded eyes of their own pride and delusion, and consequently alienate themselves into small spaces, as a dog backed into a corner, and then, invariably, they end up growling and railing against all around them.

Such a mind and heart exibited here Alexandra.

Benisons ...

Wonderful dance between the ego, the muse, and the creative reality of poetry itself. Enjoyed this very imaginative and insightful write.
