Poem Artwork

At large

They knew that they were mooring ropes, untied
and that their memories were hands; some throwing
blossoms, some casting stones, some still bleeding,
from clinging much too tightly, and some simply waving
farewell and good return, from the pier.

They knew that their dreams sailed without a compass
and that their hull was void of anything but hope.

And they knew their faith was that gaping darkness
into which their souls had plunged, ahead of them
needing no other guiding sound, no other light
than the call of love – and the clarity of choices
made that they knew could come to dawn
on the serene, auspicious shores of arrival, or could
instead, crest as stormy waves and sink them
beyond rescue, but, like seabirds or the wind
on their sails had been (they knew that, too)
as they would ever cross the oceans:

Naturally… free.

And when they opened their eyes, they saw their dreams unfolding before them, even more beautiful than they had dreamed. They caught each other in mid-air and parachuted, softly, to the island of love that had been waiting with songs to greet them.

Let's dance,
Teu Joseph

"At Large" first caught my eye in the pic you chose...A Jim Warren!
I had the opportunity to sell his works here at the gallery I worked and met him and his family at our shows!
Your write fits it perfectly...I can't even imagine what it took to venture out into the vast seas toward the unknown, sacrificing beyond anything that life in the New World could even imagine!
The storms fought, the faith needed... I enjoyed this Alexandra!
Love and Peace~
