(translation of a poem I wrote in 2006 and originally titled, in Portuguese, “secret bows”)

- art by Salvador Dali

Poem Artwork

“will you be my love, when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley?” – Sting (in “fields of gold”)

they burn, the afternoon and all the faces
of that ambiguity trickling, crystalline, down the flanks.
they oscillate, the mares, between heat and
fear, precise, upon the barley on fire.
awes, in the remoteness of eyes, the hurdles
may not be more insuperable, after all, than
the edge of the wind, once the manes are loose.
they ripen, the secret bows of the jump, already
a weight, licit, upon the croup and impetus within.
and one sole, ultimate neigh, rises, where
the vehemence of the wait unbridles all fundamentals
in the triumph of the sparks.
very close to the perceptible faces that drink
from that ambiguity like from one sole thirst
in the most crystalline of reflections.
burning, in the afternoon.

Sim, minha paixăo ...

I will be your love, regardless of what winds may move upon the fields of barley.

You paint a picture with your words, dear Alexandra, as profoundly supple and mystifying as the image by Salvador Dali.

Sometimes, it's not what you see or feel that changes you, it's what is transmitted invisibly that grows later into something that can be harvested. Magnificently conceptualized.

The picture with it's muti layered imagers grabs the eye and the poetry that follows keeps the heart and mind gripped enthralled to the very end. Sweet.

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
