Twin pools of Gaze...Undress my Soul

Poem Artwork

Brilliant eyes out of dark skies...soaring above when I
am down, warming me, exposing the frozen chills down
my spine.

Creamy plumage, evergreen fresh the limbs...perched
in their own silence...amidst spiny trees. For humanity
to gaze upon the snowy owl, wisdom to gain in return.

I vision them out of my snowy prose, side by side,
flight from cold winter cages...amid comfort branches,
of warmer climates...their mates to share.

A thousand setting suns present in their piercing eyes...
so Mighty the Majestic...power in flight amid bleakest
midnight skies so evident.

Quandaries from below, could I but have your wings,
with your all knowing eyes to redress my Soul~

in my nocturne thoughts, for spirit of the rapture
to unfold for my days of living~

The piece contains a mass of stylised imagery. The concept of gaining wisdom from the owl is well established but artfully used in the poem to suggest healing rather than achieving some mundane advantage.

For a Southern girl you sure have a gift for describing the mystery of the Northwoods.

One time, after driving two days straight from Texas, we approached my parents' cottage in northern Wisconsin on the lonely dirt road. Out of the fog appeared a white apparition on the road ahead. As we drew closer at 50 miles an hour, it spread its wings and flew off into the dark woods on the side of the road like a ghost. That was the only snowy owl I've ever seen, but it was magical because I was so tired that it could've been a dream.

Intriguing piece, Vivian, with sight linked between owl and man. I imagine man sees further than owl, spiritually, and wonders, accordingly.

The wise ole owl. Suberbly written.
Everynight I hear the owls, yet never seen one. How do they do that? Thus my mind wonders off to Owl in Winnie da Pooh, as that's the forest I back on to. ;)

A powerful poem about the silent raptor, the story owl. I had one experience with the snow owl. I was at some friends near Santa Barbara who lived on a small ranch. It was dusk. Because there was a full moon, I looked up and saw one of these beautiful creatures sitting on top of the barn. What it took to flight, you didn't hear a thing. The're the stealth planes of the animal world. They have special plumage to quiet their flight, so that they can sneak up on their prey. They are so white and silent in-flight that one might think it's an apparition in the night.

The owl has always impressed and fascinated me. In fact, (believe or not) I was working on my long poem, "A Glimpse Within") and just a few moments ago I wrote these lines . . .

Owl hooted from somewhere
alerting creatures I was there

So we were more or less on the same page at that moment.

Loved this poem. It spoke to me, and that is good. Thanks for the warm feeling.
