~An American Dream~

Take me Mighty train, where the awe of rivers run free and the mountains protect the valleys that are dressed in stimulating orange with optimistic golden trees, passing just outside my picture window seat Engineering wonder diesel powered engine, sleek red body snaking on rails a thunder, while whistle shrieks warning foreboding train rushing ahead, so much to view, roused am I to be here This journey to nowhere and everywhere, challenges my reality to be imagination alive Take my ticket, Conductor, Please, I am here for the ride of my lifetime!! Dawson (Locacation added...thanks to Dick) Black River Crossing Situated in east central Arizona in Greelee, Graham and Gila Counties, the Black River flows through Apache Sitgreaves National Forest and the San Carlos Apache Reservation near the towns of Eagar, Alpine and Fort Apache. The nearest significant town is Safford a few miles to the south. The headwaters are just a few miles west of the New Mexico state line. Flagstaff is about 180 miles to the northwest. Phoenix and Tucson are each about 225 miles away to the west and southwest, respectively.

Marvelous Sentiments - I've taken many a cross country journey on the rails, and I've enjoyed every one of them. I've also been to the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest area and enjoyed that, too.

I'm aboard, you took me there..stunning poetry, I have a daugther in Phoenix, would love to see this, love the line "This journey to nowhere and everywhere"....just along for the ride!

What a wonderful poem. I can't wait for fall to see the colors you convey. I've only taken trains in Germany, where the site is mostly the medieval towns.

The best part was analyzing the entire's experience of a train ride. You're really getting good Vivian, keep it up.

A captivating and most enjoyable poem! I used to travel by train often in the 50's and 60's, but your picture is a far more beautiful sight than most trips I made. This poem brought me back to a simple pleasure I enjoyed so much! A fun read.

You have managed to convey the inexorable progress of a train without the usual convention of using meter; even Auden and Eliot didn't try that one. The reader is carried along in that window seat sharing your ride of a lifetime.

Ah, yes indeed, the rails and the comfort of the cars so lavishly adorned. The countryside rushing, and yep, that whistle sound. Nothing in the world quite like it.
