Poem Artwork

Finding myself in my ruby red gown
of a countryside so gray what has
become of me transported here when
I last remembered dressing for a
ballroom gala full of ladies and gents
stately dancing amid white roses of
Yorkshire gained of fame

Abolished here as if a vixen from
behind closed doors upon sunset
a madame of dark shadows as
sun rises casting judgement hazes
of punishment?

Yet to ponder a waking yawn
of silent winter's nap still in the
spring of my youth guiding me
amongst these heather ed hills
to wither not..nor fade away
unlike Emily's "Wuthering Heights"

Clouds of confusion now gather
uninhibited rumbling for answers
requesting my sire of Yorkshire
take heed and solve the riddle

Will I be vintage justly of the sire's Ruby Red Collection attracting
guest to his white on blue mantel

Such be the illusions of the moors
Ruby of Yorkshire with demure
assessment of dreams remembered

This piece feels just right with the sparse punctuation and stanza separations. I selected this one because the title is compelling, and the body of this keeps that mystic flavor and more. Your use of "ruby" and "vixen" "heather' all create a rich atmosphere. Velvety good poetry. ~~ the other Diana

Intriguing!!I really enjoyed this... Could I just say however that I am from Yorkshire, UK, and our countryside is never grey (unlike images depicted of London complete with grey fog etc..)...At the moment it is the lushest of greens in 'God's own county' as Yorkshire is often called...
I love the colour and atmosphere of this poem...and nice that Yorkshire has a mention too! :)
Best wishes, Diana...

history as read and interpreted by the poet
is always different and for that, special
and interesting; you make this rich and
personal, Vivian, and alive

It's always fun to try to imagine a poem in a particular era and this one certainly has a medieval feel, rather earlier than the Bronte era. The emblem of Yorkshire is the White rose as alluded to in the poem, full marks for historical accuracy: is the ruby dress (red the colour of their arch enemies, Lancashire) a provocation perhaps?

Aye, the mysterious moors is decidedly up to no good, methinks, sweet fair maiden. Your sire of Yorkshire must hasten forthwith. Nothing ever survives for long when their dainty feet have stepped into the marl of the moors.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
