May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun. And find Your shoulder to light on...Irish Blessings...etc

Poem Artwork

Ornate scrolls from our
balcony etchings of your
life short lived burning
desires of ardent love
to share from the secrecy
of a very worn private diary

Remembrances so soft
and demure the way you
stroked my hair..the way I
fit cradled in your manly lap

White sandy beaches
tides of romantic kisses in
silhouette as if one..so tight
not wanting to escape the
effect of your roving hands

Reality that you were a soldier
so tall and handsome in your
uniform called to serve in a
war not even our own, but for
yet the freedom of all mankind

And now I can only dream
of what we had after you
returned that cold gray day
in ceremony draped with
our flag

Sweet are dreams, my love,
where my memories are still
alive for us as butterflies
scatter our love blessings
of succulent nectar for
sustaining our baby's
hunger

I certainly hope that you are writing this for war widows and not for yourself. I abhor what war does to our young soldiers and worse when it takes away their young lives before they're ever able to realize their dreams. A powerful write, any way you look at it.

The style of this poem brings to mind a couple of lines from Rupert Brooke, "He leaves a white unbroken glory, a gathered radiance, a width, a shining peace, under the night" There is a tender feel to this piece, far removed from the harsh reality we are more accustomed to as expressed in Dulce et decorum est......

Truly heartfelt, truly sad, and very sadly what many have had to endure when a loved soldier returns home draped in a flag.
