Happy or Sad such a thin
line between love's secret
desires or buried hate
respective of life thespians
stage for amusement
Love of love for happiness
needing not a mask for
peace upon one's face
ageless for using wisdom
ever glowing in contagion
~
where as sadness shows
one's wrinkles from dark
side weeping in lines of
age from loneliness
Comedy of errors, Drama
for loving portrayal today
being the complex duality
of us...lending the living for
an end to befit miracle of
our birth

Theatre Masks~
Ancient masks, now the
traditional masks are used
as a universal symbol for
drama, and also represent
the two sides of Dionysus,
as well as the two effects
of wine: joyous, Bacchic
revelry... and a dark
sorrowful harvest
So many aspects to this one poem. Talk about complex duality. I especially appreciated the "love of love for happiness. I like it, but will enjoy reading it many more times until I feel I have fully figured it out form yself. Thank you. Be well, Kathy
We are an emotional lot, Driven to shift so moved by slight nuances in our being. And we are drawn to the play, whether it be joyous or tragic, because we are intrigued by others' emotions.
once again, Vivian, tremendous scope
in your thought and expression, in this
preparing the face to meet the faces we meet;
there's not much of genuine left, the mask is the
reality now..are we afraid to show ourselves as
we really are, warts 'n' all?
fine poem, truly

oh my gosh, I can relate to this totally, unique and clever display of the masks we wear.

The theme of, as you put it, duality is as old as poetry itself and transcends all cultures, it's embedded in our language and our literary culture. You have, still, brought your unique slant on the subject in this interesting piece.
I believe that falling in love in this modern world has more traps and pitfalls confronting it that ever in the history of the world. We expect too much and we expect it instantly. We become bored much, much quicker than we used to. It is a wonder any love can survive the modern version of the siren's call and eventual crash onto the rocky cliffs.
Interesting write offering plenty of gist for thought. Love, especially in todays climate of electronics and high speed romance is more complicated than ever before.

“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
or universally.
