Extraordinary...made me go back and read this over and over, I do trust my instincts, but there have been times I have been blindsided as well..great poem~
It's funny how a few well penned lines can make you stop and examine the meaning of words. Many of us would admit to defining instinct and optimism fairly synonymously. On reflection they are miles apart as you cleverly point out.
Amen! I've been known to follow that blind optimism down some pretty sticky situation. Some even dangerous. After all that I still, at these my declining years have to guard against it. Good philosophical writing, Vivian.
