"Catch a painted pony
On the spinning wheel ride"

Writer: JOHNSON, TROY MICHAEL /
RUSHLOW, TIM R.

            ~Riding the Painted Pony Green~

Once upon Haight-Ashbury
street of San Francisco fame
from which one conjures a pony
green everyone in love with love
such be the novelty remembering

Going for a spin
ever to be high again
flowered children missing
one and all argyle stocking
feet and flower rings bearing
commune fruit of the vines

Where are you now..
Sailed away The Love Boat from
the dock of The City by The Bay?

I was always taken back when I rode those streets,

living just down the road from San Francisco..

back in the day.. of such a different world from me

Twenty three years in California (Northern and Southern)
gave an innocent Southern gal quite an education, but I loved
"The City by the Bay" THE most! And part of my Heart
like the song is still there...

“San Francisco girls, with their San Francisco ways… San Francisco nights and San Francisco days.” I was only there three years, a straight Midwestern engineering student caught up in the Summer of Love. Those were heady times I'll never forget.

They rode it for a moment and reached for the brass ring, but then it all crumbled, and they had to return to reality again. Leaving the painted pony sad and gray.

I remember great times in visiting San Francisco many times, like going to Golden Gate Park on July 4th and fog was so thick we had to eat lunch in our car and running like crazy kids along Fisherman's Wharf. It goes on from there. Thanks for the memory.
Cheers,
Dan

Green is such a healing color Lady Vivian
but for my thought and idea a time where drugs
were in use and prevalent... Everyone on their own
high here... And where are they today...

Enjoyed this

This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given day.
