"Someone" I know very well left a life of climbing the social ladder to a life of meager means and true happiness.
Whirlies and twirlies and glitter
Were everywhere
Shimmer and glamour and bubbles
All in the air
My merry-go-round ride
The fun down the slide
You blew it you did
And you know it
Parties and partners and gossip
Be in the know
This pill will take you exactly
Where you would go
The climb to the top
Just wasn't my cup
Hobnobbing not hard work
Now get to it
Now a poor poet the life I chose
Not all the glitz
Had I been untrue to myself
Yearned to be rich
These words not be read
All lost in my head
But I'm happy
To paraphrase Willie Nelson, "The social climbing media life, ain't no good life, but it's my life." At least, until I get off the merry-go-round and start living for real.

A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
