'Funny how time flies....young one day and old the next!

Poem Artwork

Seeing those old hands crossed with veins
That smile no shame for coffee stains
Those eyes still blue the love I knew
Shines still your will the strength that grew

Your voice a little softer now
Than I remembered back somehow
You've gotten frail your steps are small
Recalling days you seemed so tall

What's gotten bigger is your heart
The one some tried to tear apart
It grew forgiving as time past
I'm looking in the mirror at last

The truth can startle us and take us by surprise. Inside, we feel the same as before. But mirrors don't lie. We are the same inside but even better.

an excellent write Jean
I looked in the mirror one day and saw myself
didn't recognized the fact I was aging more than I have
sometimes while driving I can't help but see my hands
never noticed the wrinkles and popping veins
so I take pics to remind me
don't want to go on any further than that......
Peace be with you

Heart-warming and meaningful sentiments, Jane. Well-expressed are they via your verses. I wrote a poem about my hands some time back:

My Hands

These are my hands

So grateful for them I am

I know they are dirty

I just came in from working out there

They’re soiled from toil and soil

And kinship with the earth

I am grateful for my hands

When I think of all that I have done with my hands

It leaves me a bit giddy

A kaleidoscope of memories

From when I first recall the love of touching

A mere infant was I

But I loved the consistency

Of so many things and creatures

All the way from then to now and in this moment

So thankful I am that I cannot recall

Doing wrong with my hands

Forgive the dirt under my fingernails

I’ll take that any time

Over having ever done injury

With these lovely hands of mine

My hands that love

Simply and purely

The soil and earthy things

And surely you my love

And my gentle caress on you

I miss your tender touch on me

For your hands are lovely too

The hands say it all by what they have done. Exquisite.

beautifully said, I have been told age is only a number, but that is always said by one younger. for me it is just one more day, I think. your words are however ageless

Old age does have some benefits, and as they say, "age is mind over matter. if you don't mind, it doesn't matter."

What a lovely and deeply touching write, Jane. So good to grow old with no hate in your heart and more wisdom in your mind.

As we grow older we feel most things aren't worth the aggravation, and we just sit back and watch the others going to places where we've been to, and sometimes you want to say a few words, but then you would have a second thought and think, "Ah!! Let them find out for themselves like the way I did!"

LOL!!! Life is a continuous process of learning, who says we've learned them all already? I'm still learning.

Hands. Our hands are there to aid and abet our journey through life... Without them we would be so very (excuse me) "handicapped .
