Yes a good comparison. We start out life bright shiney with lots of power but as we age parts need to be replaced but then we become classics so it's not all bad. Well done.

Years ago, my hubby and I had an Oldsmobile, and it was the MOST RELIABLE car we've ever had. That car had seen many winters, carried my family through thick and thin, and even when it rusted out, it was still coughing and running in -25 degrees Celcius temperature, and along the highway, all those later model cars were lining up on the shoulders, DEAD!!! We were so happy our Olds was still running!!!"

I can relate. Still driving my 1998 Suburban. 230,000 miles and still eating up gas . 13 miles to the gal. Drive it for grocery shopping, and then, like your poem depicts, it's garage bound. We too are a crazy pair.
