Sit quietly with me

On the bench out back

As the evening fades

You reading while I knit

When I feel scared

Enfold me in your arms

In a warm embrace

Where I am safe from harm

When the sheets are rumpled

From two seasoned lovers

Kiss me softly and slowly

That I may feel your love

Share with me your ideas and concepts

For I am your best friend and confidant

Look into my eyes while speaking

Eagerly waiting to hear my reply

When the winter winds turn cold

Snuggles up close beside me

To share your warmth

Under the blanket of unity

Laugh with me when life gets ridiculous

The antidote my hears love to hear

Surprise me with unexpected silly gifts

Spontaneity is the secret of true love

Hold my trembling hands in yours

When I cry listening closely to the things

That have broken my heart into tiny pieces

Willingly give me support and strength

As the days, begin to slip away

Memories may surely follow

The good times I shall keep locked

In a secret corner of my mind

If before me, you forego…

I will sit quietly

On our bench out back
