Alzheimer's affects more families than you might think.

“Hindsight” Reflections of the hindsight that is 20/20… The profound depth of the mind is perplexing Things and events from the past Can be summed up better When reflecting in hindsight Situations and circumstances Remain clear in the mind of the elderly Albeit entering the mind randomly From childhood play to life changing events Joyous or sorrowful they come spilling out And for the first time in your adult life You see the mirrored images If you sit quietly and listen closely To the hindsight reflections You gain a deeper understanding Of where the pieces of the puzzle fit While catching glimpses of the past…although not yours The reflections belong to the woman…I call Mother~ Original Works of Karen McKeever© 2017 Photo Source ~ boredpanda.com

I can only imagine what you're going through. My mother is about to become 93 and still very sharp of mind.

I, too, am able to relate as the family took care of my father while we watched Alzheimer's disease devour him.

My mom also had dementia. I heard Alzheimer's described as someone going through a house and turning off lights one by one, and I found that to be an accurate description of this devastating disease, that I would not wish upon anybody. The thought of losing my mind terrifies me.

My mother had dementia. She lived a separate life in her mind. She went back to younger times when she was able to cook and take care of her children. I was a young child in her mind. She found some comfort in these fantasies.
