Treasured memories...

Poem Artwork

“Lighthouse Glow”

The sun’s illumination

Just before sunset

Is the natural lens and lantern

For this tiny replica of a lighthouse

That stands in the harbor

The nautical theme is fitting

For this popular 22,745 acre lake

Known as Lake Ray Hubbard

As a teen I water skied with friends

In my thirties, I spent many hours

On Seadoo’s with my late best friend

That lost her battle with Cancer

It will be eleven years

This coming Mother’s Day

I have treasured memories that

Were made on these waters

Now, in my fifties I return to the shores

To snap pictures and remember

The laughter and good times

Images flash through my mind

Of days gone by

The precious memories grow

Standing in the shadow

Of the lighthouse glow~

Memories comfort us in our advancing years. I'm happy when a precious memory pops into my head, one that I haven't thought about for awhile, and I can savor its effects.

I can't think of a better memory builder than a lighthouse on a body of water against a setting sun. May you have many more memories right there.

The photo matches the poem beautifully. And the romantic nature of lighthouses always tend to bring fond memories.

My nephew asked me to write a poem about their favorite lighthouse for him and his bride. I wrote, Lighthouse of Love and posted here. It is one of my all-time most visited poems.

There's a small pond near us that has a replica of a lighthouse on an island sitting in the middle of the pond, and I have memories of that place. This was beautiful and brought back those memories of mine.
