Okay, for Halloween I will let out my darker side...


Poem Artwork

Invoked…


 


Fear of the light did in him evoke,


A rabid screech of high pitched sound,


In his cave is where he could be found,


Hanging from the stalactites with his fellow creatures of the night…


 


Fear he did invoke,


In the populace of local peasants,


They did not enter this cave,


In the light let alone and especially in the night,


This creature however did have his slaves,


Called were they with this screech from their graves…


 


The dirt they were planted in,


Moved aside, their coffins lid off they were found,


The peasants did run to their homes,


To lock their doors and windows,


Their children they did lock in the cellar,


Deeper in the ground they were safer,


Their small bodies to these creatures but a wafer…


 


Only one night out of the year,


A dark night, no moon nor light bringing on more fear,


As much light that could be brought about,


The peasants built bonfires near the caves to rout,


The creatures of the night fearful of fire,


Who could blame them, existing in the fires of hell,


They did avoid what they did fear, just as the peasants did the same,


Both did play and to a degree did win at the same kind of game…

Yes, this is a grand entry into the Halloween poetic array... Yes, it's scary and really well-thought-out... But, Ed... this is also great writing from you! You have some marvelous storytelling talents. That last verse was truly fine for a winding down to the climax. Really good writing, Ed. katy xox.

Wise tale about rituals back in
the Olden days. (Before electricity and all)
