Growing up alone is not so bad...

Poem Artwork

I’ve lived alone most of my life,

A loner’s life without even a wife,

Don’t feel for me either way,

I am of the understanding where,

No one, no matter whom, can as well as I,

Suffer through the pangs of loneliness,

As they no longer exist,

And I do not allow their existence…

Born an only child, no sisters, nor brothers,

Seems I was enough for my mother & father,

I grew to be who I am without siblings,

Though I would have appreciated one other,

That is if I had had my own druthers…

But it wasn’t to be,

My life allowed me to of life, see,

See through my singular eyes,

No one to of me chastise,

I lived for me, to enjoy life out at sea, alone.

We have to live our lives the way they are, and you have chosen, to live alone.

Since I was born a twin with a brother companion through college, I wasn't alone at all except for very few times when we were separated. So I cherished my time alone, and Roger probably cherished his more because I controlled him so. But I have lived alone like you for many years and didn't find it to be painful except when I was somewhere beautiful and I wanted to share it with a woman (not my brother) by my side.

One thing living with my brother taught me was how to share. Without selfishness, I've been able to live with many roommates and tenants over the years. Some became good friends, but most just drifted away, content or not content, depending upon their personality.

An awesome writer Ed,
Thank you for sharing your deep emotional feelings
Of a True single man, I was blessed with 6 other siblings
Was never alone in my life, been married now for almost 58 years
Wouldn't know what I do if ever I find myself alone,
Have 3 children and 12 grandkids ,
Blessed you , peace be with you

Yes, but at some age you've got to trade in that little doll for an inflate-a-mate. So they say.

I agree with John about solitude and loneliness. They are not the same even if born of the same mother. I enjoy solitude. I don't think I've ever felt loneliness. I extend my empathy to you and I invite you to peruse my two latest posts as I always enjoy your "take" on my stuff. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis. 🙏🐶🐕🍁

Indeed, Ed, there is something to be said of solitude, which is a far cry from loneliness. Nicely expressed, since I am sure a lot of people are alone, especially these days of pandemic and can relate to your poem.
