Too Young to Know War…
Barely old enough to shave,
Not old enough for his license,
Should be at home going to a rave,
In high school he should be working on a lathe…
Instead he did serve in Vietnam,
Working for his Uncle Sam,
Should be with his family, eating jam,
Did he live to see his picture in the local paper?
Did his mother see him come home from the war?
Knowing totally she did what was the actual score,
No dream or story did he exist through, no lore,
Did he come home with both his legs to walk the kitchen floor?
His war did end, but not the way it was “supposed” to,
He may have come home, but was spat upon, they should have gotten a clue,
He did his bit for his country and god,
He went through hell and back with the buddies in his squad,
How many of them did come home?
The government putting up a smiling front, yes they did put up a happy facade…
