The Town...

Must have been the chocolate candy before bed, this dream...

Poem Artwork

While crossing the country,

We spied a sign on a tree,

Visit a city of old Europe, it read,

Right here in America it said…

True to its word,

The town was like no other,

On many of its buildings, spires,

No standing electric wires…

The people were quite less than exactly friendly,

The children, as kids can be always weird,

Wore the sign of the beast, & walked in fear,

It wasn’t a place I’d want to live, here or anywhere near…

To stop and browse no shops for souvenirs,

No gas stations nor churches seemed weird,

At every turn only one adult appeared,

A cloak, wide collar & hood his veneer…

We thought it best to of this town depart,

The GPS could not get a signal,

And my usual sense of direction did fail,

One way in & the same way out,

So it took us a couple of hours before from there we did bail…

Fortunately we had plenty of fuel,

We drove another four hours before its effects did abate,

We then stopped at a rest area & ate & such,

Everyone we talked to never heard of such a town,

As far as the locals were concerned, it didn’t exist,

Now this we could very well understand, but…

Per even the state police, the town DID NOT exist,

There was town at one time in that valley,

But it was destroyed by fire a hundred years ago,

But we saw children or so we thought at least,

Nothing there does anymore remain,

No roads, no signs, no people, a dream it must have been,

For them that was the way they did to us this town explain…

It was one of Stephen King's towns, or maybe H.P Lovecraft. Be glad you did not hang around for nightfall :-)

At first I thought you found old Edville, but more likely you were wandering in those haunted old Pine Barrens again. I hear an evil old Devil lives around there.

That's no dream lil'brother, many people had reported it and the poh-lice treated the people reporting it like you do with loonies, but when you get a few telling the same detailed storie...ain't no chocolate!

Inherent Chaos by Terry Vinson

The fortunate inherit riches, prestige, positive notoriety. Those not so lucky bear legacies filled with poverty, infamy or, worse yet, the unhinged insanity and murderous urges of their ancestors.
