Lurking amongst us,
He preys on innocence,
He so desire's destruction

Poem Artwork

Just through the window look out,

He is circling & thinking lascivious thought,

His prey, innocence,

His desire, destructive…

What you think lewd,

He has gone far beyond,

What you think rude,

He has forgotten its meaning…

Out there in the tree,

Behind the bush,

In the malls,

In school halls…

He plies his wares,

Where the young do congregate,

At their nubile ages they haven’t a clue,

A predator that can take away their very lives,

Is lurking in candy & soda pop,

Yes even parents are guilty of handing over their children…

They call this predator, just a sweet treat,

And it can be totally ignored,

Till that day does arrive,

When the monster shows his face,

That day when the diabolic diabetes creature,

Becomes for us a destructive force that lurks within us…

Good warning, most kids eat way too many sweets, but i didn't think sweets cause it, sometimes it's hereditary, but i know i don't got it yet, so not looking forward to that predator in my life. Most diabetics cheat some daily some just once in a while, but it has to be taken seriously also.

Surrender to it and die. Thanks for the timely reminder here, well said in verse, suspenseful without being preachy.

Awesome! And a nasty predator it is!! We try to avoid putting our grandson in its way....the odd time he does get near it...he fairly bounces off the walls...giggle! His parents are very careful to protect our little fellow against ALL predators...

Love the idea of diabetes as a predator. Portion control is the key.

Ed,
Sorry but Jerry and I agree on this, my wife is a diabetic, and she also can have her sweets in small amounts because she keeps a watch on the rest and we dont deny our grandchildren them either..let them be kids while they can..they will be adults the rest of their lives.

Ah, for the most part diabetics, if treated and diet watched can indulge in sweets of all kinds. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (on New york Jewish Rye -- Scandalous! I know.) today. I get my exercise, watch what I eat most of the time.

Sweet are going to be eaten by kids. All of them won't get diabetics. Don't start the children off running in fear of the things they eat, wait until they are in their twenties to start giving them the guilt treatment.
