The peacock proudly fans its brightly coloured feathers as part of courtship: I spread my train of feathers Up in the air, under the blue sky “In the open weather My beautiful designer feather A display of radiant colours In this season of love It is time to swing and pay heed Like a royal highness A spread of golden plumes Sure on my crown decorates upright here in nature With beauty of this gift Waiting for your glance, to send me into a trance Come be my mate dear peahen And dance with me my queen.

poet's words to depict the romantic courtship display
put on by the peacock male's breathtakingly appealing

The peacock is one of those wondrous creations of nature that is almost indescribable with those iridescent feathers and crowning glory, all designed to attract a mate. Ending up attracting all of us who love beauty in all its ramifications. According to Ed below, one tough bird as well. I hear that in some parts of Florida they are a nuisance. I wonder if they are that way in India.

A few years ago I lived in the country on 5 acres of land. We had a peacock who also owned the property. He was a "kick ass" kind of guy. He would fly low directly at intruders while screaming an ear-piercing sound. He could chase off cows and horses. It was mostly quiet and peaceful with him around.

With plumage such at that I doubt the male peacock has trouble finding a mate. They are truly beautiful.
