The Goddess.

Poem Artwork

I found my Goddess in a landfill. I wrapped her in a quilt and carried her through all hours of night until we reached my home. I lowered her gently into a hot bath. She was nine feet tall. I cleansed her entire body. I wanted to rid her of all evil, and make her my object of worship. Her eyes slowly began to open. Eventually she seemed completely revived. With her newfound strength, she rose from the waters, surfaced from the bath like Venus. I held her and placed her in my bed, and I lay down beside her. I wanted her to speak, to tell me of all her victimization, brutality, and ills - but she did not. Suddenly she clutched my neck, my shoulders, and cried breathlessly, agonizingly; her sorrow overwhelmed her. For many nights I cried, too.

One of my favorite poems by Ms Burrows. I don't know what it means but it speaks very powerfully to me and I would like to hear more about the goddess in the landfill and what going on. Please write more on this type of situation Ms. Burrows !!

pensive, plosive, poignancy rivets this prose poem together with a rare and raw emotion that is equally trenchant and robust...

nicely done.
