Inspired by my Mom

At twenty, I took his ring And wore it everyday The simple gold band, a token, That our love is to stay But time passed too quickly For the next ten years Now I am sitting here lonely With his memory and tears My heart is split open Baring my naked soul Tears and fears will not mend This gaping new hole His finger is now naked How can this be real? It’s been five years since He passed into heaven The pain no longer winces At the slightest mention People say I should move on To make a new life Remove that old token But it doesn’t feel right My heart is split open Baring my naked soul Tears and fears will not mend This gaping old hole My finger is now naked How can this be real? A long time has passed With love, kids, and life Since I saw him last In such a clear light Old and frail in this body Where did the time go? It’s time for my soul to fly To my eternal home My heart is split open Baring my naked soul Tears and fears are gone From a mended hole Our fingers are not naked How can this be real?
