Night of costumes to tell the story...not all that glitters is a gold...not all wandering lost....

Poem and theme photo by Isabella Koldras.

Poem Artwork

As we gear up to happily meet
the chill 'n thrill of that notable night
let's take a look...at the liable
the obvious
the cryptic
the arcane...serving as an apt title
according to the myth
the legend
the poised
the cultured
the sophisticated minds
and prepare...for this time of black magic
customs...wont...fiendish men
and wandering ghosts...

Zombie proof the window first
then render the doors
impervious...to creepy death
visiting a haunted house...teasing
mocking...otherwise brilliant brains...

Insight the smiling golden pumpkin face
shining with a spirit
of ghoulish metaphysics on earth
place a sign:
Not trespassing!
no goblins
neither immortal vampires
nor merry shadows
taking vengeance on us...

Are we really safe now?

With no limit to fears
to dark...to dread...When minds
filled with spooky and scary and fright
are screaming:

What about the pet-flap entry hole?

Is it featly sealed...to ensure
it can't be breached
by some cunning
neither living nor dead
wraths!

Relax. Value your peace of mind!
keep one wary eye out
don't let breathe
and your concern's eerie cause
go amiss
imaginary lapse
from dusk to dawn festive carnage
obscure your fun...that reflects:

The trick and treat knocking at door
begging for eternity candy never ending demand...

the unwise spending
on a stash of freaky-fetish brands

the sparkly red dress taking to streets
in that Dance Macabre roaming with death

the mingle with Goddess Nox halos arising
from the sea in a chariot drawn by two horses...

the torment waiting for cockcrow sound
to send souls scuttling back to graves

the tap on a shoulder...goose-bumps rehearsed
by mortals...and depth...benumbing nerves

the time of fastidious intentions
to be prepared...for this frightening fun
pumpkin pies and themed partying
well into the wee morn hours...

Whoa! Let's slow the fancy thoughts now
for...all is in our minds...and
BOO-ming Halloween sales!

Your poem has it all, from all the goolie creatures that the imagination and media can emote, to the scary fun that kids have on the streets filled with surprising doom, to the commercialization of it all.

Got me thinking about how literature in Hollywood has created much of what Halloween is today with new scary creatures being invented all the time. The latest is costumes made to look like pot plants and cigarettes for little kiddies to wear proudly and show off their knowledge of these wonderful things.

Isabella..." frightfully " good..I could feel the chill from your words. I especially love this special night, as it gives me an excuse to be myself and torment all the " Boos' and Ghouls' " that look for a special treat, I especially love that I can give them memories to last a lifetime... You did a " Boo-tiful job....hehehe..kj

Besides Boo-ming sales, I think dentists love Halloween. All of that chewy and hard candy keeps them busy fixing teeth.
BOO=tiful write.

Of all things intended to sting and fright
there's nothing like things that go "bump in the night."
A delightful tale told with superb skill.

Such a fine apt and timely write, Isabella. You have done a fine job of bringing it to life it seems to me. You certainly have awakended my imagination. I have found Halloween to be inspiring for me and I have particularly liked writing acrostics and haiku on the topic of this special day which I have posted her at AD. Thank you for sharing your creativity. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis
