it's a bewildering and scary time, within weeks your old life has gone...
the time just came
that being at home on your own
became the first line of defence
that finally you are happy
to reclaim a less stressed self, and
to return to your safe home
to return to your door. You
grown a bit homesick before
these housebound times, so sit.
Sit here, in your favourite swivel chair.
Eat Uncle Tobys oats. Drink a2 protein milk
Finally, you returned to your mirror
with the stranger you know by heart
the life companion you ignored before
the face with your own smile you
dismissed for another smiles
arriving at your steps
greeted with your kind words
compassion, and ready to help
Come in. Please, sit down.
How can I help. Would you care
for a cup of warmth
feeling tired of letting anxiety
control your gut...
but now you love again the heart
I Love You - on your wall
giving back to yourself the life long
romance that will never cease
but now your life as you knew it
has come to a stand still for a while
giving you time to listen to a feisty
bird in the tree singing loud
giving you time to enrich yourself
find a hue lost in the chaos of life,
draw thoughts on white canvas and
a piece of white paper, in words,
settle down with your journey's notes,
and the old music player. Take down
your set-aside book and feast... Feast
on the silence. The stillness. The quiet.
Kind of peace. Being at home in yourself
What a beautiful poem. Reading it brought tears to my eyes, so well you expressed what we at first thought was loneliness, only to be faced with ourselves, the stranger in the mirror that becomes our best friend. Yes, it has been a time of getting to know ourselves and face ourselves. Very good poem.
We are living through a time that we hope does not occur again....This strange time in our lives has given us a chance to think about what we want to do with our lives once the hustle and bustle resumes once again
Right now the best we can do for ourselves and others is stay home and feast on silence. If we are comfortable at home, the soul can speak volumes. Stay safe and healthy dear poet friend .
What a way to describe the benefits of a situation that most find distressing. But I sense a sense of great loss also in the poem when that significant other is missing. Gone with the arrival of the virus that separates us from loved ones, either in quarantine or in death.
Isabella: You would know better than most about the mysterious deadly spores that seek out victims more or less at random. Hunkering down, finding isolation, and safety away from others runs counter to our nature. But I am happy to know that you are alive and well (I hope). Thanks for this chilling but heartfelt rendering. Stay safe. If that heart were hanging on your wall I would be happy to sign my name on it. Ed

You left me with a lot to think about.
