January-February 2nd 2015, hot-Summer month of a great tennis games in Australia...complete with audience participation...excitement...anti-opponent-pro-Aussie cheeky chants...classy acts of consideration and compassion...great tennis players...great spirit and...admired Tim Smyczek's awe-inspiring act of kindness...Raphael Nadal's speech-tribute to one of the great sporting gestures in Australian Open history...the fair play...

Tanka poem 5-7-5-7-7 and oil painting on Gesso linen canvas by Isabella Koldras.

Poem Artwork

Keep making the same
mistakes although you've
practiced better way to play?
Your mind's your worst enemy
inapt to do...choose to say

loathes to concentrate
aspire the mental side
of your inner game
the chat between body' n soul
around offensive tackle

go under...go up
know how to swing your racket
keep face of calm and
humour...good faith bearing in
head; your play's as is your life

...cat stalking a bird.
Relax a little...conquer
your mind a little
let the something deep within
your heart respond to modern

competitive world
intuition telling you;
can you hear me not
over the sound of fear and
restrain and sense of fury

dramatic gestures
when chocked on easy volley
ere an ardent crowd?
Go over the shame without
further ado...take slow step

reject quid pro quo
play your love-love game without
outcome oriented
mind...nothing out-side's ever
permanent enough to last

satisfy "sweet spot"
within your longing heart that's
not a concept not
a belief nor something that
can be written in word...laud.

This is so real!
Changeless value of beauty
that has not limits.
It's the very source of
human wisdom' n potential

the seed from which life
grows...the origin of love
intuited truth;
real goal in not to win
trophy but have (well)rounded life.

Always a pleasure to read your poetry.

Tennis or any other sport is the game of life and it should
be treated as such.

I being an ex-tennis player often wondered who's idea it was
to use "love" in the points.

Always,

Deborah

Life over trophies - yes! I cannot agree more. To many people see the "prize" as the goal; instead, the human interaction of the "contest' is the real gem. Intriguing delivery of your message.

A great way to use tennis as a metaphor for life. Tim Smyczek must've done something wonderful to inspire this poem dedicated to him.

Excellent work, Isabella I would love to see this the creed of all participants in sports across the globe.

I love the theme expressed in the last tanka and the whole poem as well. Love and best wishes to you, Isabella.

This could apply to any sport, athlete, or just life, and the inner turmoil and doubt that we all have.

Your last stanza is a great summation of life
but one especially relevant to sports. The glory
of sports should be its own reward. So well written
and appreciated, Isabella.
