LONELY HOME
The doors of my lonely home open widely
Paths visible ahead and awaiting
To accommodate my sluggish body
In the blooming mansion of love
But my soul yearns to spend
Rest of my days before the end
With my daughter, my beloved spirit
Even in the brightness or in darkness
My mind steams as boiling water
In an excruciating pain of heart
Beloved mistress leaves me alone
And flies to an eternal world
Like a withering tulip flower
But a tiny tulip she remains
To spirit my life forever and ever
Now, a daughter’s eyes shut loudly
Before her father’s marvelous love
Flows as celestial Brooke, for her
Turns as a heavy burden
Darling thoughts recur in me
How she was pampered in my arms?
How I sponged her little tears?
Her soft limbs once patted my face
But now, kicks me out
I am alone with wrinkled hands
To wipe my yellow tears
She tightens my arms with surprise
As I held it years ago
Leads me to a lovely fortunate home
Wrapping with love and beauty
As I had done early
I quiver a little, the thorn
Pricks with its sharp blade
Of undesirable old age home
Broken heart bleeds with regret
Similar indifference engulfed my path
The Way I forced my parents
Now, day of fate summons me
To be a part of lonely home.
With the extended family rapidly dissipating, and divorce prevalent amid the elderly living much longer many ailments partially subdued, but still slowing them down, there seems no room some elderly in homes.
My mother moved to assisted living two years ago. It has been traumatic because she's had three roommates because of incompatibility between her and her roommate. She was forced from the first home to another recently. At least now she has her own room and is making friends. It's a shame that no members of my family are willing to take her in.
A heartfelt poem that speaks the life of many old folks nowadays.
Like a child begins his/her first date in school, afraid of the unknown, an old folkie goes into nursing home to begin a new life with the same feeling. The experience will be the same, you will meet many new friends around your own age, and have your own life.
I have watched a movie called "A Simple Life". It's a Chinese movie with English subtitle. Played by Andy Lau, and Deanie Ip. I've even written a review on this beautifully-made movie. Going to nursing home may not be as bad and horrified as some of us envisioned it to be. The movie talks about a wartime child orphan who was adopted into a family of three generations, and lived through 3 of its generations, creating special bond with each family member. At the end the surviving family member helps her walk into a nursing home to begin a new life for herself. I have posted the review to this movie in my "short stories" section.
