Because today is the first day of autumn, 2004....
apples, pears, persimmons,
bundles of sweet hay,
embers of a fire,
glowing scarlet for a fall day.
a distant call of turkeys
upon the autumn hills.
pails of raindrops silver
gathered under the windowsills.
leaves sewn in the wind into a quilt
lying upon the cold ground...
furry, frisky squirrels of brown
scurrying, hurrying all around.
yellow fields, golden harvests
promising work for the farm,
a cornhusk wreath upon the door
exudes a country charm.
jars of jellies and fruity jams,
accompany loaves of fresh bread.
kittens have found the sewing basket
tossing about bright thread.
cinnamon and apples smells
waft throughout the air,
blue ribbon prize-winning pies
for the autumn faire.
don't forget those pumpkins
which are a pivotal part of the season's charm,
that thrives and survives each and every year...
upon a country sampler farm.
I am so glad fall is here! FINALLY! (Although the summer here in Texas this year wasn't actually half bad: it was mainly cooler and wetter than average! Hope we have a winter; that'd be great! We need some serious cold and snow to kill all these confounded BUGS! GRRR! I HATE bugs!)
