Poem Artwork

my love we met nigh every day
seeking pleasure with naught to say
clandestine encounters led to melee
my burden sought to hold me near
and yet I never held it dear
casting it away whilst none could see

you hesitate but yet you must
take my parcel and bury it thus
within the hills of heather nigh the moor
assure the deed is done by night
‘neath a moon of waxen light
then my burden shall hinder us no more

too many questions if they be sold
so I’ll hide the bands of gold
secrets better kept with lock and key
look at me, my love, my shame
‘tween us now we share the blame
the truth soon will out for all to see

you can’t return to thee and thine
our doings here have made you mine
she’ll not forgive what has been done
you run away but hie you back
I’ve one more trick left in this sack
secrets better kept when shared with none

Excellent write. Love the last line: "secrets better kept when shared with none".

Danielle,

Intriguing. A hint of the mysterious. Excellently, cleverly penned--enjoyed.

Interesting and intriquing write and I hope the secret is one that doesn't backfire and cause you more pain as secrets used in love ofen do.

Very charming. So much wit and hidden meaning - but is it truly hidden? Sometimes hiding in plain sight is more obvious late at night. -- Jeff
