Poem Artwork

As the moon wanes beyond the hills

and a mist layers the valley floor

another log greets the fire place embers

casting a halo of light around me

warmth upon my soles and frame

a glowing depth where thoughts surrender

hypnotizing all who dare to stare

A few sips of Southern Comfort

birth a chariot with liquid wheels

pulled by a charcoaled stallion

carrying both mind and inner spirit

to the depths of distant past’s pleasantries

and towards the future of desiring dreams

both on gentle winds of placid emotions

The river sounds in the distant

delivering added thoughts upon the mind

far away is its beginning

ever farther its place to end

reflecting the life we’re given

churning ripples and calming coves

forever changing as is our destiny

The breeze carries embers aloft

first bright then disappear

so goes the meaning of life

a starburst given at nature’s birth

one last flicker at its end

a reminder to live our life to its fullest

for the final we’ll know not when

As nature orchestrates its serenade

and my eyes drift towards the sky

endless is its depths as are feelings

a purpose as have we all

heavy lids engulf its beauty

thoughts they go astray

now comes the feeling of lonely

till the stars wink and say goodnight

I could hear every cricket, every cicada, every rustle of every leaf, and the trickle of a nearby stream, as well as taste the sips of your drink as you take it all in...this is one of your finest pieces Duck. And to think that once you doubted your abilities as a writer. You've become a writer within a class all by yourself. Beautiful stuff. Michelle

Nothing can cause us more contemplative thoughts and rumination than staring into the flames of a log on a burning hearth. Your poem beauitfully captures your thoughts and your feelings about life and death.
