Poem Artwork

A man sat before the morning

facing the coming light

hands held in silent prayer

his heart filled with hope

whispering his most inner thoughts

longing answers which he could cope

As the sun etched the horizon

on his knees he cast these words

God show me how to be faithful

please teach me the way of true

direct me to a more righteous path

that I may share my life with you

At his feet was an appearance of flowers

many colors in a hearts array

odors born from the winds of Heaven

life’s glow the soil laid in

looking up he shyly sighed

how could these help him begin

With the softness of an autumn sunset

God spoke an explanation unto him

remember my meaning within these colors

let their hue define life’s shades

feel and savor their fragrance

for they will help to guide your way

Yellow is for the coming sun

the beginning of another day

give to yesterday your sorrows

all mistakes you may have made

understand anew my love for you

confess and be not afraid

Red is for the blood of life

let temptation leak it not

bar evil forever a drink of it

spill it never in hate or sin

I’ll keep it warm through any storm

so you'll never feel chagrined

Let blue be the meaning of true

not sadness to harm the heart

honesty to always guide you

giving remorse no place to hide

it will shore up all your judgments

grant inner peace as you sleep at night

White is the color of purity

encase your love within its shades

let it always tint your thoughts

be a beacon to guide your way

a page to remember your life’s best

a shroud to cover all forms of doubt

and as a vase to display the rest

Leaves and shafts are colored green

yes even envy has its place

let them never out grow the flowers

shade hearts beauty from another’s sight

cause meaningful petals to wilt and fall

become a stem for jealousy

let scissors of surety trim them all

As the Lord returned to the rising sun

the man immersed his soul in color

his arduous heart became contented

troubled mind found lasting peace

doubt vanished on a breath of belief

fear succumbed to new found courage

walking away he was void of grief
