Connecting with the breath Of people in distress Is one way to open the heart Despite physical distance We are not really apart United in this life When one suffers we all feel the strife Compassion is the way to go The destiny of humanity living in love’s flow The essence of humankind is humans being kind There is no other way to live In kindness we give and give and give May we love this very minute Aware of everyone also living in it Do whatever we can For our brothers and sisters from every land

You got me thinking about those poor people leaving Syria. Unfortunately, the word is that we are only taking 10,000 of the, at least 1 million that need a place to rest, recover, and perhaps, return to their homeland.

Personally I think we have given, given, given until our own way of life is beginning to suffer. I have compassion, but there is such a thing as being compassionate stupid.

A most beautifully, heart-felt and meaningful poem, especially in light of recent events in Europe and the Middle East with the stream of refugees crossing borders in dire straights. It's the kind of poem I wish I had the presence of mind to write myself. Very, very well done and thank you. As you say, we need to give, give, give. John
