Poem Artwork

Hello tree outside my window

Branches brushing against the pane
I never tire of observing your presence over and over again

I am so grateful for your continual giving
Your contribution to all life
What you and your kin give to all things living
Without you we’re in strife

We have so much to gain from your existence
Rooted in the ground
You provide the essence of our existence
Your beauty truly astounds

You are the oxygen of our life
Giver of medicine and fruit
Home of birds and countless insects
Your benefits no one could refute

You have a hand in bringing rain
In cooling down the land
You protect the soil from erosion
Enable the earth to be a strong place to stand

We are a part of a fragile eco-system
We need each other to survive
Dear ‘standing people’ need our attention
To ensure we all flourish and thrive

I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree... I think you just upped it one. Loved it.

Suzie, great feel good read. Love "brushes against the pane" and the "observing over and over again" , right off the bat. Really picks you up. Opposite to this is the image of "Dr Zhivago" in that great movie as a kid in his bedroom on a cold ,dark rainy and windy night seeing the bare limbs of a tree banging against his window from the dark outside. I have never been able to get that image out of head. Me thinks the image from your poem is much more soothing.

Nicely said. I would hazard a guess that plants have souls, different from ours, but souls nonetheless. Abuse them at your peril!

In your poem, Suzie...you point out what trees do
for our existence and the eco-system...appreciated
poetry!

Not so sure about John's theories about trees hurting when we cut them. Eh, never mind, your poem shows the world how deeply you are rooted into all living things around us. You are right-on in your beliefs. Thank you for this poem today.

Wow! Great thoughtful poem about wonderful trees. I think that trees hurt when we cut them down. Plants are a lot more sensitive than most may think. Some studies have found that plants react to sounds, smells, touch as well as changes in climate. Fascinating! Thank you Suzie!
