The need for love can have tragic consequences especially for poets.

Death of a Poet

If only my heart had a home

somewhere to reside, not to be alone.

So much to live for…

Pause, while I think just what?

And watch a moonlit night

disappear from sight

blinded

in eternal darkness.

So much to die for….

Imbued with elixir from the chalice of love.

‘Set me free’

Ha! More mythology for the masses.

Looking through a dark chest of memories

with eyes that see no future

blinded

in eternal darkness.

Rivers of confusion slacken the grip on the creative urge

The palpitating heart, beats with a fatal shiver

Limbs begin to twitch and quiver

rigid

in eternal darkness.

Poisoned with platitude

I lie

breathless on a bed.

A dark absorbing vision that offers much to contemplate, as with some of those by Sylvia Plath and others. In the event the question in the second stanza is not rhetorical, please consider that one thing worth living for is the ongoing unfoldment of possibilities for beauty, discovery, and personal empowerment offered by poetry, which obviously has befriended your life in a meaningful way. Peace.

when a poem is written with platitudes and cliches it can make us feel like were about to die ...

We only die until..again we write. Then our world thrives with more life than ever before.
Awesome write Paul.
