What really constitues art?

Poem Artwork

Same Planet Different World

In the twilight of the Gods

bound by the machinations of the

cultural chromosome

leaping from bone to bone,

sits a man of quiet steel

un-burnished by the tainted

philosophy of middle-class,

middlebrow, mediocrity.

In a society obsessed with order

where culture is King

with great mana he trans-locates

thoughts of the fundamental dichotomy

of unrealistic representation

ignoring the shewbread.

So like the sadist that rips the flesh

with atavistic cruelty

he offers up this doggerel

of the heart

to the Sun in splendour

distorting the aesthetic

thus becoming more

human than human

and like his art

in death

becomes immortal.

Deep and thought provoking, profound words offering much wisdom. But let not the culture rule master, for sometimes less is more !

Hey, Paul, let's go drink some ale together sometime and shoot the doggerel. We can talk about Shakespeare and how much Robert Greene didn't like the upstart. Hmmm. Well they're both dead now. Who was Robert Greene anyway? ;-) ~~Nordette

Hubble Bubble... this is art of the Fifth Dimension and of the Third Degree - whatever that is, but if we could but SEE the awesomeness of space and guess the smallness of our vision and existance by comparison... but no, our (my!) mind is just tooo small. On the other hand, this is entirely mind expanding, Paul... Fly me to the moon and let me play: Venus and Mars have got it made with such a gallery to play around in. Bent any good spoon lately, Uri?! LOL Kate xx

These words are so powerful they transcend
typical meaning. Rather they are interpreted
spiritually!
Outstanding!

Enjoyed reading.

Strongly worded (had to break out the old dictionary a time or two) and mysterious, a powerful comment on man's enamoration of the art and not so much the artist. Reminds me in a way of country music: the legends, you hardly hear from them (unless they die). What's hot now is not necessarily talented (there ARE a few exceptions). Sorry to ramble--this just got me thinking. Well done, Poet!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

Quite a searing write on the function of the creative soul and a strong commentary on what it can mean to live in a world where one's art, after the fact of one's life, is sometimes valued more than one's life during the course of its actual existence. A lot of power and wisdom and beauty in these lines.

Brilliant! How many artists of any venue can we think of that this write would describe?! It is usually those who are ahead of their own time and think outside the norm. (Glad you're here)
