Poem Artwork

Did you remember to make one heart

soft, wretched, and bold enough to love mine?

In what country is it dreaming

and at what hour should I whisper its name?

Has it been blessed

with the lovely cruel eyes of a baby seal,

or cursed with the all-consuming vision

of some god such as Odin?

Did you make one heart beautiful,

scarred, and starved enough to come find me?

Like a rich king’s castle it will need

more chambers than usual:

one where flutes and guitars may share their love-play,

another where we can each forget the other exists,

and yet another where we may flood each other with light

and longing and fire until we are insane with our throbbing.

Did you hide it inside a body muscled with music

or within some ancient soul covered over

with the kneeling green of a weeping willow?

I should like, I think, for its kiss to taste

like roses.  And I recall from a glorious dream

that its hair should smell like the sea.

Did you remember to make one heart to love mine?

Did you make each ounce of blood

from the perfume of a pure and perfect patience?

Did you build each trembling wall out of compassion

strong enough to hold a man so unlovely and foolish as I?

Did you remember to make one heart

soft, wretched, and bold enough to claim my heart?

In what country is it dreaming

and at what hour should I whisper its name?

Does it know where my sorrow lives

and has anyone shown it where our bliss is waiting?

And you ––You–– will you forgive me for not remembering

that yours is a love which never forgets.

Music in words. Vandross was a remarkable artist, and your nod to him likewise. One heart must contain so much, so much, to truly love.

Beautiful heartfelt tribute, Aberjhani! Luther Vandross was so talented - such a pity that he is now gone indeed. But his music will live on forever.

God bless,

Sandie.

"...kneeling green of a weeping willow..." ". . .muscled with music. . ." So many great lines and images, and I love the
rhythm. How do you spell tour de force? <3 'Pea' >3 ``````````````N: Thank you for posting the photo of Luther Vandross.
Terrible that he died before his time. That deep, soulful voice. . .
what a legacy he left!

BLESSED ARE THOSE THAT MAKE PATH TO TOGETHERNESS BY
SH0WING THEIR ADMIRATION FOR THE CREATIVE AND PERFORMING
ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THEIR FELLOWMEN.

This is a composition that stimulates the inquiring soul... Its symbolism bears many
disks of colors, and the surreal abounds through its poemization, giving it the mystery
to receive words from the lexicon of an intuitive soul to poetize "The One Heart".

I enjoyed the reading of "The One Heart".

I salute You, Sublime Poet!

Hello, Aberjhani. You know how I feel about Luther. :-)

I'm so glad you posted "The One Heart." It's one of my favorites from I Made My Boy Out of Poetry. Certainly it's the hope of many of us that there is "the one heart" out there for us. Few find it.
And you ––You–– will you forgive me for not remembering
that yours is a love which never forgets.

Peace to you, lovely soul. ~~Nordette

Your work is raw and beautiful, an exception to the call of norm. Outstanding work. Such is as in the following line from this piece.

"or within some ancient soul covered over
with the kneeling green of a weeping willow?"

Wonderful.

This trancends most poetry to take place in the realms of words one only dreams to write! It is fitting to be used as a remembrance for so great a talent as what I think is the smoothest most moving voice
in this era. I think Luther Van Dross was amazing, and i'm glad he has an equally amazing poet to dedicate a poem to him.

Thanks so much for this reminder, Aberjhani, cos I went a few weeks' ago to get a copy of his last live recording - but HMV were pretty hopeless at the time so maybe this will be a better bet. Every syllable class, as ever, but particularly struck tonight by: "Did you make one heart beautiful... Like a rich king's castle it will need / more chambers than usual" and "Did you hide it inside a body muscled with music" - will dine out on that image for a long time! Truly soulful and transcendent - like the man himself. Bless you, Kate xx
