Dear Readers,

Thank you for your interest in this title. I’m happy to announce it is now available in a new book that I invite you to view and purchase if you wish by clicking on The Bridge of Silver Wings

Aberjhani

Lighting her pipe and puffing her years,
Grandma Elsie said, “When I was a girl
God showed me my whole life. Scared me.
Didn’t know what I was seein’ ‘til
all that time filled up like a fat man’s belly.
Now I know. Breaks my heart. Makes me so happy.”

Her gin and coffee voice wraps around me
Like a cashmere scarf of spring and autumn.
I recall four innocent eggs from a pigeon’s nest
crashing at my guilty feet. Grandma was that
God revealing the fate of the two sons
and twin daughters I would never know?

Childhood was a slippery diving board
on which often my heart cracked, bouncing,
splashing, into piranha-hosted orgies.
Thrill of being noticed so intoxicating
that I didn’t mind being eaten alive.
The more my life bled, the louder it laughed.

At night words sneaked into my bed––
triple-sexed pronouns slurped my virginity,
feather-fingered verbs burned me silent––ecstatic.
My gypsy dreams spurted liquid ballads and
perfumed sonnets.  A lexicon of hunger stained
fevered sheets with sticky genius and marijuana tears.

In daylight I tended carefully my garden of
darkness singing secret terrors to the earth.
Thus did language authorize my fear
to dismiss itself––and knowledge empower
my body to act with passionate wisdom.
Out of muddy turds flew freedomsongs of mystic blue.

Slouching towards manhood I dragged with me
a world as well as my dick but mostly––
a heart addicted to the scent of dreams,
arms libertarian in their will to embrace,
a soul eager to bear the sins of Love,
a mind unafraid to waltz naked in fire or rain.

Hola, Amigo!! :)) Just a trifle late here with the Birthday good wishes, but what's a few days between friends?! I'll just make with the Many Happy Returns, and you make mine here an absolute delight with this frozen fire and flaming rain dance... as usual, would love to pick out the absolute piquant poetic delicacies but just too many to gorge myself on. Can't tell you quite how this affects me - save to say I can sooooo relate in such an inexplicable way that I am casting my eyes down below my belt to see where MY male part is??!! Think this just goes to show that I am, as everybody already knows (!!), a few sandwiches short of a picnic and a few chromosomes short of being butch... or rather that you are so bloody good that I feel the testosterone rising in this one. You have given birth to yourself afresh here, as per u. And I'm just off to smoke me a pipe and have me a close shave... !! :)) XOX LOL and birthday kisses K XX

Sigh. Drat. Can't you ever be just . . . mundane? Must you always be . . . profound? No, in answer to the first question and yes answers the second. Happy birthday, by the way, least I get so carried away I forget. "A Poet's Birthday Dance Through Fire and Rain, Part 1 of 2," is fraught with well-chosed words of the past, with a clear eye toward the future of the poet. From one poet that tries not to "cut corners" in our presentation to another, you continually mesmerize and astound. You use of the English language can be likened to pruning a wayward tree into the shape and feel that you want it to be. In doing this pruning, you take the poem to the reader in such an in-your-face manner that we gasp and step back a step, (figuratively) because we feel the passion and heat which goes into everything you write and it . . . gives us a fright, albeit not a huge one, just one that makes us suck in that breath and . . You are good, Aberjhani because you do not pen poems just for the sake of writing them. No, you are not possessed to post every single day as most of us here are, you write when you have something to give us, and that something that you give we are duly impressed. At the risk of repeating myself, Happy Birthday again.

Happy Birthday, Aberjhani, may your year be filled with good omens and gentle dreams. Again, I am stricken by your words, torn and pained as though a bandage has been ripped from a festering wound. The deep, dark sadness of your youth nails me right between the eyes and the fact that you survived and became a caring soul leaves me humbled and in awe. How is it that as children we adapt to whatever is around us and simply go on? Perhaps it is in the knowing nothing different that we find the strength. Your past has colored your soul and given you the vision to see all that is around you, and your desire to survive has loosed the chains and shackles that once held you in a prison of sorrow. May this year continue your growth toward the light and bring an ever expanding peace into your heart.

Take care,

Sherry

Happy and Blessed Birthday Aberjhani! Your poems always leave me speechless,(almost;-) I'm just amazed by the wisdom you have gleaned, that enabled you to fashion the man that is, from the boy that was. The verse below shows part of why. It shows what we humans are all about. All children need attention and affection. You said "Thrill of being noticed so intoxicating that I didn’t mind being eaten alive." This is our major need, acknowledgement! If only we did not have to be eaten alive to get it! Another remarkable poem , Aberjhani! Thank you for sharing!...Love, Eileen

You let it all hang out in this tour de force of an autobiography..
You give us a very visual and dynamic insight into your formulative years in graphic design..
And we should never be afraid to show our complete self expression..when we face up to our fears...we find that they are really only our insecurities and hang ups..:)
Brush them off with casual indifference...:)

Roll on Part 2 !
