Poem Artwork

A youthful lad walked a head of me;
_____I could only see his back.
I tried to keep apace with him;
_____‘Cause I could only see his back.

 I hurried along the best I could
_____But I could only see his back.
A ribbed t-shirt, a muscular frame;
_____Still I could only see his back.

 His legs looked strong ‘neath fitted shorts
_____But I could only see his back.
The man’s tussled hair was neatly moussed;
_____Yet I could only see his back.

My hair’s now gray—his a healthy brown
_____But I could only see his back.
My gait’s wobbly his strong and brisk;
_____Still I could only see his back.

He stopped to cross; me right behind
_____But I could only see his back.
I wished I was once again young like him
_____But I could only see his back.

I poked him so he’d turn a round;
_____I had to see his face.
But as I turned I saw my face—
_____There is no turning back.

Absolutely love the punch line in the end -
The message it all has to send.

Powerful poem Regis....to see someone young, and when he turns around, finding it is you...Does one regret not being young anymore, or look upon the younger one with satisfaction, kinowing the roads one has travelled.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
