Lake Superior in
a typical November
storm

1975, I was bedding
my woman lover in
the watery grave
of what would
be of 29 men

The ship was the
pride of the American
side, comin' back
from some mill in
Wisconsin

Late that night, we
heard the ship bell
ring, my lover's head was
between my legs, my
orgasm as heavy as
26,000 tons of ore,
could be the north wind
we bin feelin',
the larger the fetch,
the larger the waves

the storm's fury closed
the Sault Ste. Marie locks
they knew they were
doomed, the captain wired
in he had water comin' in

My lover and I saw later
that night 'is lights went
out of sight

Captain McSorely was a
seasoned sailor of the
Great Lakes for 44 years,
Captain McSorely, my
father who raised me with
"The Pride of the American Flag"
the SS Fitzgerald's label

Does anyone know where the
love of God goes when the
waves turn the minutes into hours

My lover and I still hear the wind
in the wires that make a tattle tale
sound when orgasm crashes, the
waves break over the railing.

I've been to the museum in Michigan that tells the sad tale and felt the tears choke up in my throat. I could never look at the ships on the Great Lakes again without thinking of the Fitzgerald. Great write.

i've only been on the water during one storm and even though it was nothing compared to this these words really hit home

The ocean, as with any large area of water, can change from calm and smooth to vicious and rough in a matter of minutes...the Fitzgerald was a large ship, try being out there fishing in a 30 footer & the same thing happening...scary as hell, but I have returned a number of times from a situation such as this...gotta keep a cool head while getting it & in...ed

Loved that song, yep. You kicked ass AGAIN with this rendition, Sage. I love it that you go back and take from the best and expound upon them as only you can do. Next to last verse IS the poem.
