Poem Artwork

dressed in black
from cleavage to
boot, she rides
hell-bent-for-leather
on her palomino
across what her
daddy calls the
'prairie of sin,'
a link to eight-ball,
whiskey, and
something her
daddy doesn't know,
the Baptist preacher's
daughter has a lesbian
lover,

she hides her mare in
the back of the country
pub, with a rose in the
right, pool cue in the
left, she goes in to
meet her lover,

dressed in red from
cleavage to boot, she
drives hell-bent-for-
leather in her Z-28
across what her daddy
calls the 'highway to hell,'
a link to a rock-'n-roll
jukebox, red wine, and
something her daddy
doesn't know, the
Mormon preacher's
daughter has a
lesbian lover,

she hides her Camaro
in the back of the country
pub, with a sprig of baby's
breath in the right and a
pool cue in the left, she
goes in to meet her lover,

the one in black says
to her lesbian lover in red,
"my daddy's mad at mama,
don't know where she's been,"

the one in red says to her
lesbian lover in black, "my
daddy's mad at mama, don't
know where she's been,"

dressed in infidelity from
cleavage to boot, the
wayward wives walk across
the 'prairie of sin' down the
'highway to hell,' a link to
each other and something
their husbands and
daughters don't know,
bay rum and cucumber,
wicked addiction,

they hide their Sunday shoes
in the back of the church, each
with a bottle of Confession
perfume in the right and Bibles
in the left, they go in to meet
as lovers,

the Baptist wife says to the
Mormon wife, "my husband's
mad at our daughter, don't
know where she's been,"

the Mormon wife says to the
Baptist wife, "my husband's
mad at our daughter, don't
know where she's been,"

Tusk drums beat across
the prairie, tonight's
gonna be thunder,
wicked addiction
put no woman asunder,

Tusk drums beat across
the prairie, tonight's
gonna be lightning,
religion's enlightening...

This is a great story/poem. You'd have to be 'one tough lady' to go toe to toe with a Preacher daddy.

Twists, turns and great imagery -- the things you're great at, Sage. Maybe the preachers should get together, too, lol. Good work.
