Sage Sweetwater bringing you the Upper Tier in lesbian poetry there were few women left standing, the firebrand homeless, crouched on the curb, dipping her fingers in a can of fruit cocktail, spousal abuse written on the blurb on the back of that can, I saw her standing there, I looked at her, she looked at me, "honey, come with me, around the corner, where the pink walls have greenback labels on caviar, pink champagne, and green felt blackjack tables," Madam of the legalized Elko Cathouse used her proselytizing charms, to hook me, then Waddie Mitchell cowboy poet's voice, "When They've Finished Shipping Cattle in the Fall - " I made the better choice, credit card in my purse, Madam's Chanel No. 5 led me around the corner, "come on in, sugar, I'll assign you a room you'll never forget, silk sheets and a cat o' nine for the men who pay to keep them in line, I saw her standing there, Madam of the legalized Elko Cathouse used her proselytizing charms, to hook me, then Waddie Mitchell cowboy poet's voice, "You Haven't Sold Your Saddle Yet - " I made the better choice, instead, I walked through the door to my independence at the motel behind the legalized cathouse, no battered women's shelter in sight, "no visitor's in your room!" the male cashier said to me - already black and blue, self-confidence bruised, humiliating thing for him to say to me, the whore insinuation, then Waddie Mitchell cowboy poet's voice - "Judgement Day - " and then I hear Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire, Firebrand Lesbian Novelist, written on the blurb of the book, I made the better choice... Madam of the Elko Cathouse used her proselytizing charms, to hook me... Excellent piece of reality from Elko, Sage and yes, she did make the right choice. Interesting that even at the very moment she walks through the door into her own independence, presumptuous caveats are flung at her by the insensitive idiotic male cashier. -so typical of life in a "man's world."

Hi Sage - a defining moment indeed, and an inspirational write, when judgment day is every day, and every choice makes 'reality', defines our moral and purpose - i like how you use repetition to review, and bring to present - the blurb on the can and then the novel, visualization positive - a poem from the Sage, clear that the choice that day, and a whole lot more since, that, 'I made the better choice' - great poetry, happy Independence Day...s Sage - your poem with that title was also a great read - Nicky xx
