Just when you think you've topped it all...

Poem Artwork

hard rock
transformed...I
want to make a point
darting tongue—"Indian
...paint mine,"
you said

your color
stretches as
far as the eye
can see...we started
down that path

pink chasms
spires and walls
of fragile sandstone
labyrinthine gulch spilling
your precious gems

up close I...

get a bird's eye
view the ferruginous
hawk soaring above your
perennial wetland my tongue
darts like a lizard scurrying
through your nooks and crannies

memories that
last an eternity
where the Indians
mined paint for their
ceremonies and pottery...we
are in ceremony the rock wren
as hard at it as I am yours...carving
you out

these colorado badlands
interpretive of arrowheads on
the trailhead...these turquoise beads
splashing vibrant color..."Indian...paint mine,"
have I made a point?

I...

We are
Hard as a rock alright
I go in deeper
Than deep…transforming you
never had the power pull
(have you…or have you?)
sucking the nectar from the
root of the stout GC gully
Oh, I am there…making your
magic gemstone(s) sing & sing
Alleluia VicToriAhhhhhh
while the hillside prayer miners
chiseling their own “rocks”
have no idea what a precious
hard stone really
really is…or do they?

Love You Rope Rider…
Hang Your Flowers Upside Down
While I... Paint You

There is an underlying subterfuge of sexual innuendo in the paint gully mine you so describe.

After viewing the picture with some scrutiny, I can see clearly the point you are making. ;-)

I was hardly noticing it myself, “spilling [my] precious gems.”
