We arrived early at the airport but we did not know how much time the checkpoints would take.
We rush to get a ticket right away because we don't want to take a chance on being late.
There is no one there to greet us just a touch screen; what a sorry twist of fate!
We must learn this computer quickly - the prize is a ticket for our departure gate.
We arrive at the next checkpoint only to hurry up and wait.
We show our ticket, ID and empty all that we have and put it in a plastic tray.
Next, hold up your hands, you did not commit a crime, so there must be a better way!
Then you are told you must be inspected at the next checkpoint number two.
You were radomomly selected to be inspected again, you are truly among a select few!
As the clock ticks away you finally pass the test and rush to get dressed so you can proceed to your departure gate.
You get dressed, get your things togeather and run down terminal hallways to see a large crowd so you sit and wait.
Then the time comes to go on board but you are asked if you want to give up your seat because the plane is full.
After all you have been through there is "no way" even if they offer you another hundred dollar bill.
So you sweeze into the airplane and are place in a seat with no elbow room to spare.
Then you place as much as you can into the compartment above and fit into your assigned chair.
The plane finally taxis to get ready for to the take-off after spending another 30 minutes on the ground.
Then you are in the air and are you are elated, finally to be another step toward being homeward bound!
Then you are offered a free drink with no frills or perks along the way.
You use your credit card for food in the sky and a movie to pass the time away.
You finally land and hope that you will make it to your connecting flight.
But they tell you to wait because there is no place for the plane to park. They have to wait for another plane to take flight.
You sit in your cramped seat and pray that you will live to see an end to this eternal flight.
You think, "What ever happened to the Friendly Skies?" as you prepare to miss your plane and stay in this strange town for the night.
So pray hard these days as it's the only way to see through the darkness of "the eternal flight."
Yes, the friendly skies are gone but they still cannot erase the grace Our Lords Eternal Light!
Amen

As you pointed out, we will find rest and safety when we enter into the joy and grace of our Savior in Heaven.
I am always thankful when I make it to my next destination when flying...hahaha
I also know the cumbersome trials of air travel.
You made me feel like I was checking in again at the airport.
Waiting on my eternal flight...
Teresa
The heavens employ all manner of difficulties and trying situations to get our attention, don't they :)

Deregulation and free enterprise have created a nightmare scenarios for those who expect the “friendly skies” of when only the privileged rich could afford to fly. Today, even the poorest opt for flying over taking buses, even though flights may take longer and be less convenient.
Someday, going to space will be just as trying, but we will do it because it's there.

Love ya!
