Yes, there is a shellfish that swims in the sea. I marvel at what our Creator has done. Anything is possible with anything and anyone!

You have such beautiful blue eyes, about fifty or more I just find it hard to believe that you swim on the ocean floor! I love to eat you when you are cooked tender and just right However, too much heat still makes you a mushy delight! I found your shell on the beach but I’m not sure if you’re a boy or a girl Most people don’t know that you are very famous all around the world! Although you have many characteristics of a snail The food you eat is not much different than that of a whale! Some might wonder, what on earth can this sea creature be? Why it’s a delicious delicacy that comes from beneath the sea. © 2015, John Michael Domino It’s a Scallop!! Scallop Facts: Scallops are in a group of animals called mollusks which are related to snails, octopi, squid, clams, oysters and mussels. However, unlike clams, mussels and oysters, scallops can actually swim by clapping their shells quickly, propelling jets of water past their shell hinge. Scallops have over 60 eyes, some are a brilliant blue. Many scallops have both male and female sex organs. They reproduce by spawning – releasing eggs and sperm into the water. The part of scallop we eat is the whitish beige muscle that’s hinged between the two shells. Scallops eat plankton much like a whale by filtering unwanted particles out. Scallops can be found all over the world from shallow waters to the deep sea. Now is that cool or what?

I don't generally like bottom feeders like oysters or catfish because of their disgusting habits leading to a lack of taste (they don't taste good). I find scallops to be an exception and it's my favorite choice of seafood at restaurants if they have them broiled.

I read recently that salmon farms have cleaned up their act considerably by propagating scallop colonies beneath their pens. When I read that, I began to reconsider my taste for scallops recycling salmon poop!

If eating fish eyes is good, eating scallop eyes must be better.
