A neighbor's home was recently violated by a bunch of thieves. They must have known, that they were gone. Now my neighbor's wife cannot sleep at night. It's a shame we can't live in peace in our own back yard.

Crime can happen anywhere! So be safe, please be aware! For it can be a jungle out there! Don't give a hint that you'll be gone Stop the mail and the paper too An untidy lawn, can be a clue! Lock your doors, leave on the lights Turn on some music late at night An open garage is a thief’s delight! Turn on the security alarm, if you can Use timers and sensors on the lights shine a few throughout the night Loud dogs and other pets can help too Strangers don’t like surprises, so create a few! Don’t tell the world when you’re going away Keep honest folks honest and have a nice day! Aug 2017, John Michael Domino

My brother wrote me that �You shouldn't move,� when we had a drive-by shooting that killed an innocent man of few houses down on my street. A week later he wrote that a neighbor who bragged about his guns and protecting his house was broken into and the guns were stolen.

It certainly does pay off to make our homes safe from intruders like you have so well stated in your poem. But, as my great city, Houston, has shown, there are far more good people around than the bad people that get in the news. Bad things have always happened, it's just that now we know about it much quicker and the bad guys have it much harder if we want to stop them.

I was burglarized once during my 35 years here. And, from what was taken, a VCR and a $11 clock, I think it was an inside job by the parents of the woman I asked to watch the house. She said they were fond of taking things from hotels they stayed in� and they were very rich.

Good lighting outside, an alarm system and having a neighbor keep an eye out for you are also good options. But still if somebody wants in your place bad enough, they'll find a way. That's a sad but true fact of life.
