Perhaps an inlsult is like a stone hitting our face, rejection otherwise is the same feeling of those which were branded with a hot iron rod.
Rejection, any rejection, is the psychological expurgation done to anyone which don't expect a brutal burst of honesty just a word of encouragement.
Love's rejection is the ultimate castration.

Poem Artwork

One day, suddenly,
on his daily return,
he opened the front door
to an empty house
full of empty spaces,
full of empty rooms,
void of laughters
but full of shadows,
all that it was left
after the "sun".

Silence told him
everyone was gone,
tiptoing out of his life
like burglars do,
without a noise
and without a word,
just a white envelope
containing a letter,
which he knew would say
Dear John...

He wasn't to feel guilty,
"it" wasn't his fault,
she just realized that...
"she felt out of love,"
taking the children
he must understand
could be not
something a mother
will let to chances...
so, "here we're gone."

"You will get the papers
for a speedy divorce,
so I can marry again,
to you best friend, you know;
your children will be needing
a man inside the house,
one which I can give
all my, again, undying love,
so sen the papers back,
with your signature, Dear John"

Again, I'm taken. This poem takes a lot of me, you've put into words such anguish for one that has been "left" alone, without words, without goodbyes, no closure. Extremely sad but very sharp, like a scalpel through the heart.

Those who write letters, as Holly said, do take the easy way out. They also miss and deprive the empty soul of closure. As I've watched the pain stricken faces of all but one of my loves departed , in time they would thank me after they found new love and purpose in their lives again. To hear the words "you were right" soften my own saddest of the things the could have been. This disclosure gave us both time to understand the many things that led up to moment. Lady J

George,
The way you captured this one pains my heart. When love ends it is devastating. Divorce is likened to death and a grieving process has to take part.
powerful words my friend.

Sad, but it happens many times...your write it touching and realistic all too much in today's society when people just suddenly fall out of love...don't understand that. Enjoyed your write, it reflected upon an entire lifetime in a few lines...enjoyed!

I concur with Michael, Georg, HOME RUN!! Sad, isn't it? Don't have the courage to break up face to face. Might have had a chance to work it out...well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
