Litle things, fragile things, dreamed of things, and for any child a mystical thing not allowed to be explore, dissect or "see" how it works.

Poem Artwork

I remember the little ballerina
on her toes, dancing around,
following the weak music
coming from the little case.

Look, but don't touch,
Grandmother used to say,
it's very old, a gift I got
when I was a little girl.

Sometimes I thought it was
an older version of Tinkerbell,
remembering that gracious
dancer trying to fly away.

The tunes sounded childish,
yet, charming were they,
with the kind of innocence
that was found in those days.

Look, but don't touch,
it's very old they would say,
but you know? I don't care
if it gets broken, she most be
tired of dancing for more
that two hundred years.

This is a very sweet, bitter sweet poem. It brought back memories I 'forgot' all about. My beautiful ballerina music box. It would be wonderful to see today's little girls enchanted by a simple piece of beauty rather than silly Ipods. Oh, well, there is always us to tell them about it. Thanks for sharing this piece.

A beautiful piece Georg
It reminds me of my daughter
She was a dancer at 5 years of age
She used to dance for me
to the tune of "the Music Box Dancer"
Thank You
Peace Be with you

Very sentimental right up to that last verse, and then the little boy shows. I could picture that look on my son at that age where everything he owned was taken apart. Lady J

You have the heart of a music lover in this one. Such memories are as precious as the item itself... perhaps, even more. Thank you for the rare backward look at life. - Bill

The little, toy ballerina is a wonderful metaphor for innocence, childhood, dreams and of course the end.

Georg,
I also remember the little ballerina twirling around on her pedestal with music flowing from the case. My mother had one and I always admired it from afar. Thanks for taking me back in time. Excellent poem, Georg!

Many blessings,
~Linda
